Michigan State University’s Multicultural Center Earns 2026 Building Design Award

Michigan State University’s Multicultural Center, designed by SmithGroup, has been recognized with a 2026 AIA Michigan Building Award. The honor celebrates the project’s architectural excellence, innovation, sustainability and meaningful impact on the university community.

The award recognizes the Multicultural Center’s role as an inclusive and welcoming destination where students from all backgrounds can connect, collaborate and build community. Designed through extensive engagement with campus stakeholders, the center provides spaces for cultural programming, student support, learning and gathering, creating a vibrant hub that advances belonging and enriches the student experience at Michigan State University.
