SmithGroup is pleased to announce that Senior Principal Todd Kohli has been elevated to the American Society of Landscape Architects prestigious Council of Fellows. Election to the Council of Fellows is among the highest honors ASLA bestows, recognizing select members for their exceptional contributions to the landscape architecture profession and society at large. Only 1,593 Fellows have been elected since 1899.

Over his nearly 30-year career spanning 4 firms and 15 countries, Kohli has led interdisciplinary teams on transformative civic, campus, healthcare and urban projects that have elevated the public realm. He has also mentored and guided hundreds of professionals and students into the practice nationally through internship programs and his teaching and advising work at Penn State, UC Berkeley, City College of San Francisco, the University of Arkansas and the University of Washington.

His design leadership and deep commitment to sustainability and community impact have contributed to a portfolio of notable projects. These include Tokyo Midtown, a globally recognized mixed-use development, civic landmarks like the Sunnyvale Civic Center and South San Francisco Community Civic Campus, and unique healthcare environments like the Gansu Women and Children’s Hospital and UCSF Mission Bay, where he has championed biophilic design to support healing and well-being. His work has garnered 50+ design awards from organizations including ULI, ASLA, MIPIM, ENR and AIA.

Beyond his project work, Kohli has made a lasting impact on the profession through mentorship, professional advocacy and service. His leadership within organizations like ASLA, the Urban Land Institute and the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board, combined with his mentorship and teaching of emerging professionals at multiple firms and universities throughout the U.S., has helped build the next generation of landscape architects. Many of his students and mentees have gone on to lead firms and major projects of their own.

Kohli and 35 other new Fellows will be honored at the ASLA’s 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture in Los Angeles in September.
