Kevin sees similarities between his role as a campus planner/designer and a chef. “Part of my job is to take good ideas and use them as ingredients to make something memorable,” he says. Those ingredients, he adds, can come from anywhere. “Everyone can have good ideas. I strongly believe in collaborating with my clients and my colleagues to look for the unique story the project will tell.” Kevin has always been intrigued by unique stories, particularly those from the past. Growing up in St. Louis—with the Gateway Arch monument commemorating the opening of the American West—Kevin was drawn to the Lewis and Clark expedition. “It was fascinating to read their accounts of an untouched nation, the discoveries they made and the cultures they touched,” he remarks. Their trek had a special resonance for Kevin on his own cross-country adventure—riding his bicycle from Virginia to San Francisco during the summer of 2015.
