Born in the U.S., raised trilingual in Austria and schooled in Germany, Sylvia brings a truly global outlook to her architectural career. “From my Austro-Hungarian heritage I have gained a Bohemian outlook on life. My formal training as an architect in Germany has taught me discipline and logic of cool precision. Living in the U.S. has given me the freedom to explore and embrace the new,” suggests Sylvia. “My international background makes me feel at home wherever I go in the world.” Sylvia has experience working on projects both in the U.S. and Europe, on a wide variety of projects that include galleries at the V&A Museum in London, public housing in Berlin, feasibility studies, and Science & Technology projects that includes 12 years of experience in data center design. She describes her design philosophy as “designing from the inside out, where the needs of the user have an impact on the building exterior and environment.” One of her favorite design quotes comes from Charles Eames who once said, "Eventually everything connects – people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to quality per se." Sylvia’s interests are as diverse as her upbringing. Her talents include cabinet maker, photographer, holistic energy healer and cooking. “Cooking is in my genetics, especially Hungarian dishes and pastries,” she explains. I inherited my cooking skills from my mother and her grandfather, who was the top chef at the parliament in Budapest in the 1920’s.”
