Microsoft Chevy Chase Office

As one of the largest and most revered technology companies in the world, Microsoft has reached success by establishing diligent and specific processes to accommodate its workflows and products.

Determining the best design decisions for their offices was no exception. Microsoft has a specific set of standards for all their workplaces. After all, the technology company needs spaces that complement its practices, and allow for the type of creative collaboration that it’s so widely known for.

When it came to Microsoft’s Chevy Chase location, the tech company wanted something different. It was its first joint sales and development office, meaning the space would serve both the regional DC sales team as well as the Amalga product development center, a health system designed to collect and display patient information.

Enhancing Microsoft’s existing campus design guidelines, our team worked to create a design that would reflect the company’s mission to encourage spontaneous interaction and progressive thinking. The space would also be modern and vibrant, and would allow the company to showcase its products, while simultaneously reflecting its core values of openness, integrity, passion, commitment, and accountability.

To express Microsoft’s brand and creative process, the design elements incorporate both digital and analog. High tech surfaces of bronze, polished glass, and steel juxtapose with natural and reclaimed materials to convey a timeless space indicative of Microsoft’s commitment to sustainability. Custom-designed workstations, overhead lighting fixtures, and a reception desk create a one-of-a-kind environment, while floor plans leverage maximum access to daylight and views. Flat screens and changeable product roll-out materials accent the open corridors, which lead to a variety of meeting areas and touch-down spaces.
