Healthcare facilities, suggests Herb, "deserves a devotion that other types of architecture don’t require. Life starts there, is sustained there and sometimes ends there. It’s a great privilege to work on buildings that serve people in a time of need." Healthcare crises in his own family, Herb adds, "galvanized my desire to stay in healthcare, and do everything on my part to make our projects the best they can be." The Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City was a particularly memorable one. "A flagship healthcare campus on a remediated Superfund site where smelters had made bullets for World War II: Turning that site into a place of healing was special." In his free time, Herb tends to bees. "I have a couple of hives and have learned just how awesome these creatures are," he remarks. "They are truly the ultimate team."
