Michael’s work within the hip-hop community and the architecture industry has established him as a pioneer of a new era of architectural practitioners. Michael’s studies of hip hop-inspired architecture and design have been featured in a variety of national media—from Rolling Stone magazine to National Public Radio—led to keynote speaking engagements at national conferences, and prompted Michael to create The Hip Hop Architecture Camp®, with the mission to increase the number of minorities in architecture and urban planning. “I’m diligently working to make design a more inclusive process,” he explains. “Designing a better future means we must acknowledge who has not been involved in the past. We must diversify the profession by improving access, relevancy and inclusivity.” Michael unwinds by working out at the gym and playing basketball. You can be sure music is part of his routine; Michael’s current playlist includes Rapsody, Nipsey Hussle and Jay Z.
