SmithGroup Appoints Vince Avallone to Director of Medical Planning

SmithGroup, one of the nation’s leading integrated design firms, has appointed Vince Avallone to Director of Medical Planning, a newly established leadership role within the firm’s health leadership team. In this role, Vince will drive innovation and the growth of SmithGroup’s medical planning team, strengthening its reputation as an industry leader.

Vince has been a driving force in medical planning for more than 30 years, the last 17 years of which have been at SmithGroup, where he has been an industry leader in designing patient-centered, strategically driven healthcare environments. His deep knowledge of clinical care models, workflow optimization and operational strategy has consistently delivered forward-thinking solutions to complex challenges, advancing how healthcare environments support patients and providers.

He has led planning efforts for some of the nation’s most complex and high-profile hospital projects, including UC Davis Health California Tower, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Highland Hospital Acute Tower Replacement, Kaiser Permanente Railyards Medical Center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Center for Advanced Care, River People Health Center and Sutter Health/CPMC Van Ness Hospital.

As Director of Medical Planning, Vince will guide SmithGroup's medical planning and programming teams across the firm in partnering with clients to deliver planning and design solutions that create measurable impact. Under his leadership, these teams will advance tools and processes that enhance efficiency, accelerate decision-making, and raise the standard of design quality. In this capacity, Vince will lead efforts to strengthen expertise within the planning discipline, leveraging research and market insights to drive better outcomes across projects.
