University of Arizona Medical Innovations Building Reaches Topping Out Milestone

SmithGroup recently celebrated the topping out of the University of Arizona’s Medical Innovations Building, a new interdisciplinary research facility designed to bring together researchers, educators, clinicians and industry partners to accelerate innovation and real-world impact.

Designed by SmithGroup in partnership with McCarthy Building Companies, the facility will support the university’s mission to expand research opportunities and strengthen industry collaboration. Located in downtown Phoenix’s Bioscience Core, the building will also house Banner Health’s new bio-incubator, helping advance discoveries from the lab to patient care.

"The topping out of the Medical Innovations Building marks an important milestone for everyone who helped bring this vision to life, reflecting the power of collaboration among the university, researchers, designers, builders and community partners working toward a common goal," said Stephanie Mitrovic, science and technology studio leader for SmithGroup. "Designed to strengthen community connections and respond to our desert environment, it will be a place where ideas become breakthroughs with lasting impact for generations to come."
