As a civil engineer, Rob is intrigued by the late 1800s. "What a time to be an engineer—technology was moving so quickly," he marvels. "With the knowledge we now have regarding environmental issues, a person could really change the world." Based in Madison in the 21st century, Rob often applies those insights on waterfront projects. "Working along the water, we are presented great opportunities to build inspiring places," he notes. "My role is helping clients realize the potential, and pushing the project teams in designing these spaces in an environmentally responsible manner." Rob thrives on the challenge. "They’re definitely not your run-of-the-mill civil engineering tasks," he notes, "and there’s no cookbook for the ways we help our clients." Come autumn, Rob trades waterfronts for Wisconsin’s north woods, bird hunting with his two pointers. "They are my companions all fall,” he says, "chasing ruffed grouse and woodcock through the poplar forests."
