“It’s my hope that my work makes the world a little bit better,” says Jason, and then ticks off the opportunities he sees as design Principal in SmithGroup’s Chicago office. “With a holistic, inclusive approach, the designer becomes a synthesizer of aspirations and ideas. Hospitals can become soothing environments and community centers, a theater can become a community park, a research center can be an oasis,” he muses. “It’s design that does more than it has to. It improves businesses and research, it gives back to communities, it improves the environment, and it enhances well-being inside and out.” Jason finds relaxation and inspiration in audio. He queues up the artists he grew up with (soul and ‘80s rock) and podcasts on topics ranging from astronomy and history to news and design. “I’ve also never really stopped listening to the mix of ‘90s grunge and various symphonies I was exposed to as a young musician,” he adds.
