Stephen Lodge

Steve Lodge, Detroit, Senior Principal, Director of Architecture, Architecture, Cultural, Health, Higher Education, Workplace

Stephen, at the age of 12 dreamed of becoming an architect and he pursued it with all his heart.  He gives credit to Lisa, his wife and family for supporting him through many years of education toward getting his degrees. He was denied repeatedly when he applied for graduate schools because he did not meet their criteria, until one person became his advocate and asked the university to take a chance on him. He ultimately earned his undergraduate and Master’s Degrees from LTU. Now Director of Architecture, Stephen is proof that inspiration can come from anywhere. “So much of what we do as architects is problem solving, which is something I really enjoy. It is a great thrill to watch the positive reactions—and sometimes disbelief—of clients entering spaces that we created together. We get to move people to an emotional state of awe and inspiration, and that is a powerful and exciting thing to be part of.” In his free time, Stephen enjoys woodworking, reading, exploring outdoors, gardening and kayaking. He also enjoys films “about people digging deeply within themselves to do what is right.”
