DATA CEnters & HIGH-PERFORMANCE research computing

The fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) has unlocked new avenues for innovation and industry. The growing demand for higher rack densities and efficient cooling solutions poses both design challenges and opportunities. SmithGroup continually pushes the envelope to meet the energy demands of AI and HPC facilities in a sustainable fashion. We lead the charge with sustainable high density rack designs and our advisory work with the U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory network to set the standard in reduction of energy demand, environmental effect, and community impact.

SmithGroup has a significant background in pioneering low energy impact and sustainable design solutions for data centers. The waste heat resulting from computational power use in data centers is enormous, and when captured, data centers can be the new clean energy heating plant. Although the push for renewable energy is impacting a grid-wide shift, there’s a lack of attention to sustainable end-use consumption. This can be addressed with a more value-based system that incentivizes responsible energy use and innovation.
